Mahmoud Abuwarda Invited as Guest Lecturer at the University of Oklahoma School of Music

Palestinian composer and guitarist Mahmoud Abuwarda has been invited by the University of Oklahoma (OU) School of Music to serve as a guest lecturer for their World Music curriculum.
Representing the Department of Musicology, Dr. Pedro López de la Osa extended the invitation for Abuwarda to share his professional expertise and artistic journey with students enrolled in the “World Music” course at the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts.
The lecture, scheduled for April 10, 2026, will focus on Abuwarda’s unique approach to composition—a style that masterfully intertwines Middle Eastern musical heritage with Western classical structures. This academic engagement in the United States highlights Abuwarda’s growing influence not only as a performer and composer but also as a vital cultural educator on the international stage.
“It is an honor to connect with the students and faculty at the University of Oklahoma,” said Abuwarda. “Sharing the stories and technical nuances behind my music with a global academic audience is a significant step in fostering cross-cultural musical dialogue.”
This invitation follows a series of international successes for the composer, including his recent collaboration with Italy’s Halidon Music and his ongoing recognition by major industry institutions.
