Note

Mirage سَرَابْ is rooted in the figurative definition of its title: a phenomenon that creates a displaced image of a distant object, appearing real or possible, but ultimately revealing itself as an unattainable illusion. Written in exile from Gaza, the piece explores this concept through the paradox of displacement, where both memories of the past and dreams of the future behave as mirages.

Structurally, the work unfolds continuously across three distinct sections: Slow – Fast – Slow. The opening slow section establishes a shifting, unfamiliar sonic landscape. This gradually gives way to a fast, rhythmically driven middle section that integrates traditional Arabic rhythms into the string framework, creating a vivid, pulsing illusion of proximity to home. Taking up the entire second half of the composition, the final slow section strips away this rhythmic vitality. The momentum dissolves into a prolonged, echoing stillness, mapping the vast and quiet space between an unreachable past and an unattainable future.
